Fourth Graders join the Runaway Scrape! |
|
|
To get a hands-on idea of what it might have been like for the citizens of Gonzales as they hurried to escape the advancing army of Santa Ana in 1836, 4th grade Texas History students are shown quickly deciding what they should pack. Outlined on the floor of Mrs. Gearhart’s classroom is the “footprint” of the actual size of a 19th century Studebaker wagon—just like the ones used by the participants of the original “Runaway Scrape.” Mrs. Gearhart also provided the students with baskets, blankets, pots, pans, and more from which the students could make their choices. |
